WHAT ARE APPRENTICESHIPS?
An Apprenticeship is a qualification for a Young Person (aged 16-24) that they gain whilst working for an employer. There are currently over 160 different occupational areas to choose from. Apprenticeships have been designed by businesses for businesses and in close collaboration with the Learning Skills Council and the Sector Skills Councils. The training they receive is funded by the government, you may be required to pay their wage. Your Apprentice will learn to do a job whilst working towards an agreed sector framework. WHAT KIND OF BUSINESSES OFFER APPRENTICESHIPS TO THEIR STAFF?All Kinds. Currently over 36,000 organisations offer Apprenticeships, from large organisations to small local businesses. If you employ young people, you can certainly benefit from offering your staff an Apprenticeship. WHO WILL TRAIN MY APPRENTICE? WHAT DO I HAVE TO PROVIDE?As an employer you provide the Young Person with a placement within your company, pay them a wage and obviously support and encouragement to help them along as they learn their trade. member of your workforce as they work towards their Apprenticeship.
