| What makes up an Apprenticeship? |
 |
| NVQs |
NVQs are qualifications for work and show you can actually do a job, and not simply that you know how to do
it in theory. They are awarded as part of the apprenticeship when you have
demonstrated knowledge and skills of an occupation such as Catering or Construction.
The qualification will lead you through a series of assessments against National
Standards - starting at Level 1 and going all the way up to Level 5 for senior
managers positions. As your skills develop, you build up a number of units
to a full NVQ at a particular level. The length of course can vary depending
on the level and your own progress. |
 |

| TECHNICAL CERTIFICATES |
Technical certificates form part
of some apprenticeships. These are delivered through off-the-job training
and provide you with the underpinning knowledge for your chosen business area,
which is so important if you intend to progress within your job. |

Technical Certificates are assessed
by means of a test, which confirms your knowledge of the NVQ and more importantly
your organisation’s industry. |

| KEY SKILLS |
Key Skills are a range of essential skills valued by all employers and universities. All Apprentices will
receive training in the Key Skills required by their chosen industry. Your
tutor will incorporate the required skills into your Apprenticeship programme, via project
work, portfolio evidence and a Key Skills exam. |
 |
The six Key Skills are: - Communication;
Application of Number; Information Technology; Working With Others; Improving
Own Learning and Performance; and Problem Solving. |

| What can happen when you have completed and Apprenticeship? |
Apprenticeships are recognised and respected by employers everywhere
and once you’ve completed your Apprenticeship the options available
to you are endless. Whether you decide that you’ve had enough of
training, or that you want to carry on and aim higher - the choice is
yours. |
|
Should you choose to further your training, Advanced Apprenticeships
are recognised by certain universities as entry requirements onto Foundation
Degrees, Degrees and HNC/HNDs.
